A little more about ourDoula Services
If a Doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it! - Dr. John H. Kennell

Birth Doulas: The term Birth Doula is used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a birthing person (and partner if applicable) before, during and after birth!

Birth Doulas offer informational support by keeping you and your partner informed through each milestone of your pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey. They can also help you find evidence-based information about different options in pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. Birth Doulas offer emotional support by being a continuous comforting presence offering reassurance and encouragement, showing a caring and empathetic attitude, and helping you and your partner work through fears and self-doubt about pregnancy and birth. Birth Doulas offer physical support by anticipating and tending to physical needs during birth: massage and counter pressure, suggestions for position changes or coping techniques for labor progression, creating a calming birth environment, helping provide water therapy (shower/bath), hydrating and feeding the birthing person, hands-on infant feeding support.

*Remember Birth Doulas are not OB's or Midwives and are not qualified to perform medical procedures such as cervical checks, BP checks, fetal heart rate monitoring, delivery of baby or give medical advice.*

Are Doulas really worth the added expense?
Uh, Yeah! Here's some stats:
-
25% decrease in the risk of a cesarean section
-
8% increase in the likelihood of spontaneous vaginal birth
-
10% decrease in the use of any medication for pain relief
-
38% decrease in the baby's risk of a low five minutes APGAR score
-
31% decrease in the risk of being unhappy with the birth experience
-
Shorter labors by an average of 45 minutes for ALL birthers who used Doula services
